My Bag My Story – Lighten The Load Of Foster Care!

My Bag My Story exists to improve the lives of children in foster care, elevating their dignity and self worth.

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Cara Finger, Chief Bag Giver with My Bag My Story, who shares her story of starting the organization that exists to bring awareness to the community that kids everyday enter the foster care system carrying only a trash bag. The organization sells duffle bags, backpacks and accessory bags and for each item sold, a bag is donated to kids in the foster care system, so they do not have to carry a trash bag. During the interview, Finger talks about partnering with organizations, the impact of their efforts, the power of purpose, and how the community can help.

  • We exist to bring awareness to the community that kids everyday enter the foster care system carrying only a trash bag.
  • We sell awesome duffle bags and backpacks and for each bag sold a bag is donated to kids in foster care, so they do not have to carry a trash bag. Carrying trash bags erodes there since of dignity and self-worth and we are trying to change that one bag at time. Our hope is to start getting corporate sponsorship so we can give more bags. So far, we have donated about 500 bags to kids in foster care. The problem of kids entering foster care is real. There are over 435,000 kids currently in foster care and not enough homes to house them. We need more foster parents and people that are willing to take older kids and sibling groups. Most of the time these kids are harder to place because older kids come into care having been through a lot already.
  • The community can help by first just being aware that this is happening in our community. They can also start to look for products that have a mission. Like my Bag My Story we give a bag when one is purchased. We do pop ups to bring awareness to the community and sell bags.
  • Our next pop up is Friday Dec 18 Save the date!! We will be at @whitesmercantile on 12th Avenue from 10-2!! Come finish your Christmas shopping. We hope to see you there! 🎅🏻
  • Your invited in Belle Meade on Saturday Dec 19th.
