The SPARK Awards 2020: Memphis Jewish Community Center

Congratulations to Memphis Jewish Community Center for receiving The SPARK Awards 2020 Nonprofit (Budget Greater than $5M) Award for their philanthropic work in our community.

Memphis Jewish Community Center (MJCC) provides a central place for our community, Jewish and non-Jewish, to find health and wellness initiatives addressing the areas of physical, mental, intellectual, cultural, social and spiritual well-being.

During the pandemic they have continued to provide quality virtual programs in all programming departments, especially focusing on their vulnerable senior population. MJCC has continued to serve those seniors in their MIFA (Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association) Congregate meal program, using MJCC staff and volunteers to deliver their meals. They are also doing daily zoom check-ins with their seniors, giving them opportunities to still socialize with their peer group.

They have partnered with other JCCs to host cultural arts virtual events featuring Chelsea Handler and Al Roker. MJCC were one of the only organization’s in the city to provide a day camp this summer to over 50 campers for 6 weeks, without one incident of Covid-19. They also started their “virtual school” program, offering support and childcare for students who are learning remotely.

Fogelman Jewish Family Service has continued to provide services during the pandemic, with their dedicated team of staff and volunteers. They are providing transportation, meals and mental health support, as well as case management for seniors.
